Manual lymph drainage is an incredibly gentle, light touch massage. Specific movements of the skin are aimed at stimulating the lymph system and at increasing the rate of removal of waste products and excess fluid from the body’s tissue, thus truely cleansing it from the inside out.
MLD does not only work great within a detox or dieting regime, it is also intensely relaxing, boosts the immune system, and offers a host of benefits for a multitude of symptoms and conditions. To name but a few:
Better digestion (through improved peristalsis)
Promotes healing of fractures, torn ligaments, sprains and lessens pain
Can improve chronic conditions like sinusitus, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, acne and other skin conditions.
Relieves fluid congestion: swollen ankles, tired puffy eyes and swollen legs (also suitable in the 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy)
An aid to trigeminal neuralgia, Bell's Palsy, glue ear in children.
I have trained with MLD UK in the original Dr. Vodder method. There are many other treatment types that may affect the lymph system within a relaxation or beauty therapy framework. The specific techniques of the Dr Vodder manual lymph drainage are, however, designed to speed up the rate of lymph flow without putting an additional load onto the venous system (lymph system and cardiovascular system together make up the circulatory system). Manual lymphatic drainage may be suitable where deeper types of massage cannot be applied, eg in swollen areas or over varicose veins.
Manual lymph drainage is performed on bare skin without the use of oils.
MLD cannot be used on people who suffer from congestive heart failure, acute allergies or inflammations, thrombosis or phlebitis or untreated cancer. Other conditions may require consent from your GP.
We will establish in the initial consultation if this type of treatment is suitable for you.
"My wrist is completely better now (touch wood). I felt that I did feel the benefits of the MLD you gave me especially when you moved to working more closely with the area around my cervical spine. I wanted to thank you for your support and time in helping me find solutions to the problem."
